What happens when you combine a musician, a visual artist, a cinema, an audience, and 100 rooster whistles? What kind of music can be composed for these whistles, and how can they be used to explore the relationship between humans and nature?
Kuckufonia takes over Kino Marilyn on the festival’s opening night.
In this stage piece — which combines music, visual art, and audience engagement —visual artist Pia Sirén and musician Ayla Brinkmann present a hundred recycled rooster whistles and their players on stage.

ACCESSIBILITY: Kino Marilyn is wheelchair accessible via the back door, which staff will open upon request. There is a ramp and a stair lift in the courtyard, though the ramp is somewhat steep. The auditorium allows for free movement in a wheelchair. The cinema has an accessible restroom.
Pia Sirén is a visual artist working with spatial installations, sculptures, and performances. In her recent work, Sirén has constructed large-scale spatial nature experiences using artificial means, primarily construction materials.
Ayla Brinkmann is a Finnish-South African musician and artist whose instruments include the human voice, flutes, and groups. In 2026, Ayla plans to learn how to sail.
