SYNTH PAINTINGS

What happens when you combine visual art with a collection of different electronic sounds, rhythms, and tones? In what other ways can you interact with a physical artwork besides just looking and listening to it? How does the art experience and the interpretation of the piece change when the audience can influence the artwork themselves?

Synth Paintings is a series of interacting sound sculptures that happen to be paintings at the same time! The audience has the opportunity to manipulate the sounds produced by the sculptures, and together with the exhibition space, they create a unique soundscape.

The exhibition is born from artist Nils Qvis’s interest in electronic music and sound design, which began in his teens, as well as his recent deep dive into the world of handmade synthesizers. Through this, he has begun to explore their potential as something more than just noise makers. The end result is a colorful installation that combines a comic-book style with electronic sound.
